Albert was the son of Charles and Florence Mary Davis nee Stevenson. His father Charles was born in Ibstock, Leicestershire, and his mother Florence in Thurlby, Lincolnshire; they were married in 1887 (J/F/M Nottingham) and according to information provided on the 1911 Census had had twelve children all of whom survived: John William b. abt 1887, Charles b. 1889 (A/M/J Basford), Albert b. 1891 (A/M/J Basford) and Harold b. 1892 (J/A/S Basford) who were born in Hucknall Torkard, Ernest b. Bulwell birth registered 1895 (J/F/M Nottingham), Cyril b. 1899 (A/M/J Nottingham), Florence Louisa (Louisa) b. 1902 (A/M/J Nottingham), Lily b. 1903 (J/A/S Nottingham), Edith b. 1905 (O/N/D Nottingham) and Alice birth registered 1907 (J/F/M Nottingham) who were born in Lenton, and Frederick b. 1909 (A/M/J Nottingham) and Annie b. 1910 (A/M/J Nottinghamj) who were born in Radford. In 1891 the family was living at 3 Byron Cottages, Hankin Street, Hucknall. Charles (22) was a coal miner and he and Florence (22) had three children: John (3), Charles (2) and Albert (under 1 year). Two visitors were in the household on the night of the census, Florence's sister, Alice M Clarke (25) and her husband Thomas (27) a coal miner. However, by 1901 Charles and Florence had moved to Nottingham and were living at 10 Mettham Street in the parish of Lenton Holy Trinity. Charles was now a grocer/shopkeeper on his own account. He and Florence had six children: John (13) an errand boy, Charles (12), Albert (10), Harold (8), Ernest (6) and Cyril (1). By 1911 the family home was at 50 Randal Street Nottingham. Charles Davis (43) was a shopkeeper/newsagent on his own account and his wife Florence (43) was assisting in business. Also in the household on the night of the census were ten of their twelve children: Albert (20) a beamer in the lace trade, Harold (18) a labourer at a soap works, Ernest (16) a pony driver (coal mine), Cyril (11) Louisa (8), Lily (7) and Edith (6) who were all at school and Alice (4), Frederick (2) and Annie (1).
1st (Garrison) Bn. Formerly 11945 Notts and Derby Regt. Albert died in hospital at Calcutta (now Kolkata), India, and was buried in Calcutta (Bhowanipore) Cemetery (grave ref. Plot O. Row D. Grave 17).
