Rudolph was born in Shireoaks, Worksop in 1899 to Alice Maud Hargreaves. Alice, born in 1879 was a native of Shireoaks and lived with her parents John & Matilda Hargreaves. Daughter Gertrude Vivian was born in 1896 two years before Rudolph, both to unknown fathers and lived with their mother and grandparents. Grandfather John, died in 1903. In 1911 Gertrude is recorded at 15, to be working as a golf caddy, whilst 12 year old Rudolph is still at school. His mother, Alice Maud, died in 1920, two years after the death of Rudolph
Rudolph Hargreaves enlisted at Retford, and went to France. He was killed in action and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France
