Family History

Leonard Thomas Woodford was born in 1899 at Lowdham and was the son of John Williamson a farm labourer and Annie Elizabeth Woodford (nee Harwood) of 6 New Row, Woodborough. His father John Williamson was born in 1862 at Harby, Leicestershire and his mother Annie Elizabeth Harwood was born in 1869 at Epperstone, they were married in 1891 and their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district they went on to have 8 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, however only the following 6 are listed on the 1901/1911 census, John George b1891 Newstead, William Walter b1893 Linby, Ernest Edward b1896 Woodborough, Leonard Thomas b1898 Lowdham, Emma Alice b1899 and Irene Mary b1901 Lowdham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 6 New Row, Cemetery Road, Woodoborough and are shown as Joh 49 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Annie Elizabeth 42 yrs and their children, Ernes Edward 14 yrs a farm labourer, Leonard Thomas 12 yrs a scholar, Emma Alice 11 yrs a scholar and Irene Mary 10 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Leonard Thomas Woodford enlisted at Hucknall and served with the 6th Battalion Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and was later attached to the 2/4th Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers). He was killed in action at Cachy (near Amiens) on 25th April 1918 at the age of 19 years. His name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Pozieres, France
