Lewis Arthur Murden

Lewis Arthur was the only son of Albert John Murden and Louisa Murden nee Atkin. Albert was born in Keyworth in 1868 (J/A/S Bingham) and Louisa was born in Basford in 1869 (A/M/J Nottingham). In 1891 Albert (22) a groom, was a lodger in the household of George and Elizabeth Atkin at 51 Gawthorne Avenue, New Basford. George and Elizabeth had six children at home on the night of the census including Louisa (22) who was a lace mender. Albert and Louisa Atkin were married in 1894 (marriage registered J/F/M Basford); they were to have two children, Lewis Arthur (birth registered 1896 J/F/M Basford) and Frances Ivy (b. 10 October 1905, birth registered O/N/D Nottingham). In 1901 Albert (32) a coachman/groom at a livery stable, and Louisa (32) were living at 62 Gawthorne Street, New Basford, with their five year old son, Lewis. Also in the household was Albert's brother, Thomas Murden (24), a brewer's carter. Lewis' sister, Frances Ivy was born four years later in 1905. The family was still at the same address ten years later in 1911; Lewis (15) was a butcher and Frances (5) was at school. Also in the household was a boarder, George Atkin (37), a baker, who was Louisa's married brother. Albert and Louisa were still living at 62 Gawthorne Street when their son was killed in 1916. Frances Ivy married Herbert A Hodgkinson in 1933 (marriage registered O/N/D Nottingham). She died aged 76 in 1982 (death registered June, High Peak Derbyshire). Albert died aged 78 in 1947 (death registered June Nottingham) and Louisa aged 87 in 1957 (death registered March Nottingham).
