In 1891 Albert (22) a groom, was a lodger in the household of George and Elizabeth Atkin at 51 Gawthorne Avenue, New Basford. George and Elizabeth had six children at home on the night of the census including Louisa (22) who was a lace mender. The family was still at the same address ten years later in 1911; Lewis (15) was a butcher and Frances (5) was at school. Also in the household was a boarder, George Atkin (37), a baker, who was Louisa's married brother. Albert and Louisa were still living at 62 Gawthorne Street when their son was killed in 1916.
