Family History

He was the husband of Sussanah Lilian Smithson and the father of William Arthur and Lilian Smithson. In 1911 they lived at 11 Brewitt's Yard, Albion Street, Nottingham. Sussanah married Arthur Walklin O/N/D 1917 and they lived at 12 Independent Street Radford Nottingham. She applied for her first husband's medals 29/9/1919.

Military History

Smithson was a pre-war Territorial. He attested in October 1914 aged 24 years 10 months. He was released from military duty 14 May1915 and returned from civil employ three days later. He was wounded 9 October 1915 and passed through 36 Field Ambulance, 6 Casualty Clearing Station, 3 General Hospital, 46 Base Depot before returning to his unit 25 November 1915. His widow was granted a weekly pension of 15/- 5 February 1917.
