John Newcombe was born in 1889 in Nottingham and was the son of John Newcomb and Mary Ann Newcomb née Colton of 8 Exchange Court Nottingham. His father John was born in 1856 in Nottingham and his mother Mary Ann Colton was born in 1855 also in Nottingham, they were married in 1875 in Nottingham and went on to have 9 children all of whom were born in Nottingham, Elizabeth b1877, Mary b1879, Pamela b1881, Herbert b1884, Ann b1880, John b1889, Nelly b1892 and Henry b1895.

Military History

Private John Newcomb, enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 10th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 5th May 1916. He is buried in Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres.
