He was born in 1898 the son of Henry and Amy Hallam. Henry senior was a stationary engine driver. Henry, Amy with children Henry Maurice and Doris E were living on Carlton Hill in Steam Brick Yard in 1901. The family had moved to 48 West View Cottages on Carlton Hill by 1911. Henry senior was still working at the brick works as an engine driver whilst young Henry had just left school but had no work. The family had also increased with the addition of another son Burley and daughter Connie. By the time of Henry's death the family had moved to 249 Carlton Hill Carlton, Nottingham. Henry Maurice was also commemorated on the gravestone of his parents in Carlton Cemetery.
Henry Maurice Hallam enlisted in Nottingham and died of wounds on 26th August 1917. Tincourt New British Cemetery, Grave Reference: I E 6
