Family History

Frank William Coleman was born in 1896 the son of William a brewers carter and Mary Coleman née Wood of 23 Station Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire and the brother of John George, Hilda May, Hedley, Olive, Lilian and Arthur Coleman. William was born in 1866 at Pinxton, Mary Wood was born in 1869 at Westwood, married in 1892 at Nottingham they went on to have 7 children. In 1911 the family were living on Station Street, Sutton in Ashfield.

Military History

Private Frank William Coleman enlisted on 16th May 1913 at Sutton-in-Ashfield giving his age as 17 yrs and 6 months and was a carter. He went to France 2nd March 1915 and was killed in action, 14th October 1915, whilst the battalion was holding the line at the Hohenzollern Redoubt near Loos, France. Buried/Commemorated : Loos Memorial, France. Panel 87 to 89.
