Herbert Thompson

Herbert Thompson was born in 1882 he was the son of he was the son of Walter a worsted mill worker and Frances Thompson née Vernon of 2 Little Lane, Pleasley Hill. Walter was born in 1861 at Mansfield, Frances Vernon was born in 1856 at Mansfield, they were married in 1880 at Mansfield. they went on to have 11 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 2 Little Lane, Pleasley Hill, Walter 50 yrs is a worsted mill worker, he is living with his wife Fanny 55 yrs and 6 of their children including Albert 16 yrs a coal miner and Arthur 14 yrs a bobbin carrier. In 1911 Herbert has left the family home he is living at 2 Grove Cottage, Portland Street, Pleasley Hill he is shown as being Herbert 28 yrs single a factory hand, he is living with Alfred Parnham 32 yrs a coal miner hewer and his family. Herbert married Ellen Martin, (born 25th May 1887) they were married in 1915 in Mansfield, they had a daughter Ellen who was born on 29th January 1916 they lived at 4 Cromer Street, Cock Lane, Mansfield. His widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week which commenced on 23rd September 1918 His widow Ellen married Charles Battison in 1918.
