Family History

Edgar Sanderson was born in 1894 he was the son of Alfred a cotton factory worker and Hannah Sanderson née Hardwick of 11 Pleasley Vale, Derbyshire. both Alfred Sanderson and his wife Hannah Hardwick were born in 1869 at Pleasley Vale, they were married in 1892 at Mansfield, they went on to have 4 children. In 1911 the family were living at 11 Pleasley Vale, Alfred 42 yrs is a cotton factory worker, he is living with his wife 42 yrs and their 4 children, including Edgar 17 yrs a cotton factory worker and Bernard 13 yrs a scholar. Edgar married Charlotte Brown on 14th October 1916 at St Edmund's Church, Mansfield Woodhouse they lived at 40 Park Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse. Commencing 25th December 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private Edgar Sanderson attested on 3rd September 1915, he was 22 yr and 150 days old, He was mobilised for war on 16th May 1916 and posted to the Royal Field Artillery Later transferred to the York and Lancaster Regiment he landed in France on 7th February 1916. He died of wounds on 14th August 1917 he is buried at Adinkerke Military Cemetery, Belgium Items returned: ID disc, 1 metal ring, 1 belt, cap badge, pocket wallet, letters, photographs and cards.

Extra Information

Brother, Bernard was killed on 24/03/1918 whilst serving with the Sherwood Foresters. On Pleasley Vale memorial as Saunderson.
