Elizabeth Cadwell of Killamarsh, Derbyshire married Frederick Markham Spacey in 1891. The following year, they had their first son, Samuel born in Killamarsh. He was not the only one born in Killamarsh as over the next 15 years they had 7 more children all born in Killamarsh. They were , Frederick, Charles, Sarah, Violet, Thomas, Cicilia & Ada. The family resided at Kirkcroft Lane and by 1911 the three eldest and their father were all working in the pit. Sometime after, the eldest son, Samuel, was working at local pit whilst living in Worksop, prior to his army enlistment. His mother was also recorded as resident at 6 Clumber Place, Worksop in 1919.
Pte Samuel Spacey Worksop Guardian 7 February 1919 The death has occurred under distressing circumstances of Pte Samuel Spacey, RAMC of 6 Cuthbert Street, Worksop, which took place at his home on Monday. Pte Spacey had just been discharged from the army after three years service. Aged 27 he was a popular young man, and well liked by his associates at Manton Colliery, where he was employed for a considerable time. He was also an enthusiastic member of the Worksop Division of the St John Ambulance Brigade, and as such was very well known. He was credited with a certificate for his ability. Two years of his service in the army were spent abroad, so that his return home a fortnight ago constituted his first homecoming since leaving England. For some time he was in Malta, but was subsequently moved to Salonica, where malaria fever attacked him and for seven months, on one occasion, he lay in hospital. He was out on Sunday, when an illness seized him, and his death took place next day, The sympathy of the townspeople are expressed to his relatives in their bereavement. The funeral, with military honours takes place today at the New Cemetery. Details of his funeral and his photograph are published on 14 February 1919.
