Alexander Straw

Alexander Straw was born in 1898 at Farnsfield and was the son of Alexander J.P., a grocer and baker and his first wife Lillian Mary Straw née Straw of The Grange, Farnsfield.His father Alexander was born in 1868 at Farnsfield and his mother Lillian Mary Straw was born in 1868 at Sutton in Ashfield , they were married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield Registration District, they went on to have the following children, Walter William b1895, Alexander b1898 and Lillian Mary b1901. all were born in Farnsfield, His mother Lillian Mary died on 30th November 1901 aged 33 yrs the death was recorded in the Southwell Registration District.His father then married Mary in 1903 their marriage was record in the Louth Registration District, they went on to have a further child, Violet Bower Straw b1904 at Farnsfield. In the 1911 census the family are living at Farnsfield and are shown as Alexander 43 yrs a baker and grocer, he is living with his second wife Mary 43 yrs and their children, Walter William 16 yrs a shop assistant, Lilian Mary 9 yrs a scholar and Violet Bower 7 yrs, also living at the house is Alice Copeland 17 yrs she is a domestic servant. Alexanders probate was proved on 30th May 1919 in Nottingham, he was shown as Alexander Straw of Farnsfield , Nottinghamshire a Lieutenant HM Army died 3rd June 1918 at Lappion Hospital, France, his effects of £1470 5 shillings and 6 pence were left to his father Alexander Straw a corn dealer
