Family History

William Henry Pridmore was born in 1898 at Ilkeston and was the son of Herbert a general labourer in a tannery and Eliza Ann Pridmore née Tomlinson of 2, Edinburgh St., New Radford, Nottingham. His father Herbert was born in 1876 at Radford, his mother Eliza Ann Tomlinson was born in 1877 also at Radford, they were married in 1896 at Nottingham, they went on to have 7 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children all born in Radford except their first born, William Henry b1898 Ilkeston, Horace b1899, Eliza Ann b1901, Charles b1903 and Lily b1910. In the 1911 census the family are living at 19 Ossington Road, Radford and are shown as Herbert 35 yrs a general labourer at a tannery, he is living with his wife Eliza Ann 34 yrs and their children, William Henry 13 yrs who was a stamper of bottle labels, Horace 12 yrs a scholar, Eliza Ann 10 yrs a scholar, Charles 8 yrs and Lily 1 year of age.

Military History

Private William Henry Pridmore, enlisted in Nottingham and served with “B” Company, 9th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 1st July 1916 the first day of the battle of the Somme. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
