Family History

David Boyfield was born in Worksop, Notts in 1896. He was one of eight boys born to William and Sarah Jane Boyfield all born in Worksop and lived at 24 St Cuthbert Street. When David was 4 years old his father died age 54 and his mother married in Worksop four years later to William Parkes. David started his working life as pony driver in the Manton pit, before he, and his older brother, Richard, enlisted in the Lincolnshire Regiment.

Military History

Extract from Worksop Guardian 3 September 1915"He joined the 6th Lincolns twelve months ago and for the last two months he had taken a manful part in operations in the Dardanelles. A younger brother, Private David Boyfield age 19 joined the same regiment shortly after his brother. He too was drafted out and the lads fought side by side. In his last letter home, written on 2nd August, Private Richard Boyfield says that he and his brother were well, but were having a rough time".

CWG additional information:- Son of Richard and Sarah Jane Parkes, of 11, St. Cuthbert St., Worksop, Notts. Named on the Helles Memorial, Turkey (including Gallipoli). His elder brother, Richard, died the day before in the same regiment and same place.Research by Colin Dannatt
