Family History

Richard Smith was born in 1894 at Clowne, Derbyshire and was the son of William and Susannah Smith, of Brick Kiln Farm, Three Thorn Hollow Farm, Blidworth, Nottinghamshire Richard married his wife Lilly Hallam in 1915 at Mansfield, they had a daughter Edna Mary born 15th November 1915, (she died 1920) they lived at 1, New Yard, Pleasley Hill, Mansfield. Following his death his widow Lily was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence which commenced on 12th May 1919.

Military History

Private Richard Smith enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Mansfield, he served with the 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, He served in Italy and died of wounds on 3rd November 1918 at a military base hospital at Rouen, he was aged 24 yrs. He is buried at St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, Seine-Maritime, France. Buried/Commemorated : St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France. Plot S. III. Row L. Grave 11.
