Percival Bernard Barnett

Private Percival Bernard Barnett, 10th Battalion Tank Corps, was killed in action on 8th August 1918. He is buried in Villers Bretonneux Military Cemetery.

Obituary published 18th August 1918 in the Nottingham Evening post :- BARNETT. – Killed in action, August 8th, Gunner Percival Bernard Barnett, Tank Corps, aged 20, beloved elder son of Mr. & Mrs. B. Barnett, The Park, Mansfield.” Article published Mansfield Reporter and Sutton Times dated 23rd August 1918 :- “MANSFIELD TANK DRIVER'S DEATH. “Private Percy Barnett, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Barnett, Park-avenue, has also been killed, the sad news being received in Mansfield on the same day that Mr. Gibson heard of his loss. Private Barnett was educated at the Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, and showed great promise, passing the Junior and Senior Cambridge Local Examinations with honours. Since leaving school, and up to his joining the army he was with his father's firm, Messrs. Barnett and Turner, accountants. He was a very quiet, unassuming boy, and his many friends will hear of his early death with regret. A large circle of friends, too, offer sympathy to the parents. Pte.
