Family History

Samuel Robert Robertson was born in 1896 he was the son of William a night watchman and Sarah Robertson née Duffield of 23 Pleasley Vale. William was born in 1863 at King's Lynn, Sarah Duffield was born in 1862 at Alfreton, they were married on 4th April 1889 at St Matthews Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 9 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 23 Pleasley Vale, Mansfield William 48 yrs is a night watchman, he is living with his wife Sarah 49 yrs and their 7 children including Samuel Robert 15 yrs a mill hand.

Military History

Private Samuel Robert Robertson enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 12th battalion Sherwood Forester Regiment. he was killed in action on 22nd March 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France. Panel 52 to 54.
