Samuel William Collins

Second Lieutenant Samuel William Collins was commissioned Second Lieutenant 2/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 1st March 1917. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 28, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)Commemorated: Arras Memorial, France. Bay 7.was reported missing on 21st March 1918 and his death later presumed on that date. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France (Bay 7).

Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser; 12/04/1917: Marriage of Miss Mary Green, daughter of the late Samuel Green and Mrs Green of Hucknall to Samuel William Collins, son of Mr and Mrs T H Collins of Mansfield. They honeymooned in Shakespeare Country.Nottingham Evening Post, 'Marriages', 1st April 1917:- “COLLINS – GREEN. – On April 5th, by special licence, at St. Mary's Church, Hucknall, Mary, eldest daughter of the late Mr. Samuel Green and Mrs. Green, of Beardall-street, Hucknall, to Second-Lieut. Samuel William Collins, second son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Collins, “Someraby,” Layton-avenue, Mansfield.” Nottingham Evening Post, 16th December 1918:“ROLL OF HONOUR. KILLED ... EC.-LIEUT. S. W. COLLINS, 7th Sherwood Foresters (Robin Hoods), reported missing March 21st, is now known to have been killed on that day. He was the second son of Councillor and Mrs. T. H.
