George Kettleband was born in 1895 in Bingham and was the son of William George a warehouseman and Demaris Kettleband née Blatherwick of 10 Long Acre Row Bingham. His father William was born in 1865 in Radcliffe on Trent, his mother Damaris (Mary) Blatherwick was born in 1858 in Gunthorpe, Nottinghamshire. they went on to marry in 1884 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham registration district. They went on to have 8 children , sadly three of them died in infancy or early childhood. Their children listed on the 1901 and 1911 census were Ada b1885 William b1888 Bingham , George 1895 Bingham His father William George died in 1909 in Bingham he was 44 yrs of age. In the 1911 census the family are living at 10 Long Acre Row, Bingham and are shown as Mary (Damaris) 55 yrs a widow and charwoman, she is living with her son George 16 yrs a fish carter.
Private George Kettleband enlisted at Catterick, Yorkshire on 12th December 1915 , he gave his age as 21 yrs and 6 months, his address as 10 Long Acre Row, Bingham and his next of kin as his mother Demaris of the same address. He was posted to the army reserves the following day. He was mobilised for war on 8th June 1916 at Derby and was posted on 13th June 1916 to the 3rd battalion, Leicestershire Regiment. He landed in France on 2nd March 1917 and on 19th March was transferred to the 10th battalion Cheshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 7th June 1916 and was buried in Wulverghem Lindenhoek Road Military Cemetery Grave Reference: II C 7
