Family History

Albert Bagguley was born in 1882 at Mansfieldl Woodhouse and was the son of Joseph a carter and the late Keziah Baggaley néé Baggaley of 226 Heywood Street, Mansfield. Joseph was born in 1854 at Mansfield Woodhouse, Keziah Baggley was born in 1856 at Mansfield, she died in 1908 aged 52 yrs they were married in 1877 at Mansfield and had 2 further children, Herbert and Lillian In 1911 his widowed father is living at 26 Heywood Street, Mansfield. Albert Baggaley married Bertha Moreton (born 21st April 1880.) on 26th December 1909 they were married at the parish church at Mansfield. Bertha Moreton brought two children to the marriage Eva Moreton born 24th December 1902 and Olive Moreton born 23rd May 1903. they lived at 52 Nunnery Street, Mansfield and had the following children, Lillian Alice born 29th March 1910, Albert Richard born 24th March 1912 and Ethel May born 1st March 1915. In 1911 the family are living at Furniss Row, Nursery Street, Mansfield, Albert is 29 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Bertha 30 yrs and children Eva 8 yrs, Olive 6 yrs and Lillian Alice 1 year old. Commencing 19th March 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 27 shillings a week.

Military History

Lance Corporal Albert Baggaley enlisted on 31st August 1914 at Mansfield, giving his age as 22 yrs and 143 days, he was a coal miner contractor he was posted to the Leicestershire Regiment. He landed in France on 29th July 1915 where he served until 16th November 1915 and returned to England. Promoted to Lance Corporal on 27th March 1916 he returned to France on 18th May 1916 and was killed in action on 17th July 1916 having no known grave his name was commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
