George Ernest was born in 1895 in Nottingham and he was the son of Abraham a lace machinist and Ada Arme, née Curran of 58 Bovill Street, Radford, Nottingham His father Abraham was born in 1872 in Fazeley, Staffordshire and his mother Ada Curran was born in 1873 in Nottingham. They were married in 1891 in Nottingham and had 10 children 1 of which died in infancy , their surviving children were all born in Nottingham and were : - Constance b1892, George E b1895, Elizabeth b1897, Abraham b1899, Ada b1901, Eva b1903, William b1905, Arthur b1908 and Harold b1910. In the 1911 census the family are living at 30 Lambert Street, Hyson Green and are shown as Abraham 39 yrs a lace maker, he is living with his wife Ada 38 yrs and their children , Constance 19 yrs a lace maker, George 16 yrs a toffee maker, Elizabeth 14 yrs, Abraham 12 yrs, Ada 10 yrs , Eve 8 yrs, William 6 yrs, Arthur 3 yrs and Harold 1 yr.

Military History

Private George Ernest Arme, enlisted in Nottingham he was a drummer and served in “C” Company, 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, he was killed in action 14th February 1917. He is buried in Vermelles British Cemetery(grave ref V.C.41).

Nottingham Post obituary (abridged) 5 March 1917: 'Arme. Killed in action February 15th (sic) 1917, Driver GE Arme, Sherwood Foresters, age 22. Sister, brother, Connie and son. Son of Ada and Abraham Arme, age 22. Mother, sisters, brothers, father (in Egypt), brother Abraham in Ireland.'
