Family History

Morgan Arthur Wheatley was born in 1898 at Ilkeston and was the son of Morgan Thomas a hosiery manufacturer clerk and Mary Wheatley née Tutin of 114 Nottingham Road Sherwood Rise Nottingham. His father Morgan Thomas was born in 1872 at Cossal, his mother Mary Palliser Tutin was born in 1872 at Worksop, they were married in 1897 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration district, they went on to have two further children, Albert Joseph b1902 Cossal and Cecil Francis b1906 Cossal. In the 1911 census the family were living at 73 Lord Haddon Road, Ilkeston and were shown as Thomas Morgan 39 yrs a hosiery manufacturer clerk, he is living with his wife Mary 39 yrs and their children, Morgan Arthur 13 yrs a scholar, Albert Joseph 7 yrs and Cecil Francis 5 yrs.

Military History

Lance Corporal Morgan Arthur Wheatley enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 56410 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 3rd October 1918 whilst serving with the 2nd battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois memorial (panel 10) France.
