Family History

Archie Price was born in 1888 at Giltbrook and was the only surviving son of Job a coal miner hewer and Mary Agnes Price née Frost of Nottingham Road Giltbrook Nottinghamshire. His father Job was born in 1853 at Giltbrook his mother Mary Agnes Frost was born in 1854 at Duffield, Derbyshire, they were married in 1873 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 5 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Priscilla b1875 Greasley, Mary b1876 Eastwood and Archie b1889 Eastwood. In the 1911 census the family are living at Giltbrook and are shown as Job Price 58 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Agnes 57 yrs and their son Archie 22 yrs a hairdresser

Military History

Private Archie Price enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Giltbrook, he initially served with the service number 39598 in the Lincolnshire Regiment, he was serving with the 15th battalion Highland Light Infantry when he was killed in action on 15th July 1917.Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Nieuport Memorial.
