Family History

Henry was born at Sturton in 1888 and was the son of William a malster labourer and Jane Wilkinson née Troop of Sturton Le Steeple. His father William was born in 1852 in Besthorpe, Lincolnshire and his mother Jane Troop was born in 1854 in North Clifton , they were married on 15th May 1873 in Thorney, Notts and went on to have the following children , Sarah Jane b1874 Newton, Lincs, Joseph 1877 South Clifton, William 1879 Bole, Sussanah 1881 Bole, Annie 1883 Sturton Le Steeple, Henry b1888 Sturton Le Steeple, Irvin b1890 Bole and Lille b1895 Bole In the 1911 census we find the family are living at 9 Waterworks Terrace, Gainsborough and are shown as William 59 yrs a maltster, he is living with his wife Jane 57 yrs and their children , Henry 23 yrs born at Sturton Le Steeple and is a labourer in a timber yard, Irvin 21 yrs a labourer in engineering, and Lillie 16 yrs a domestic servant.

Military History

Henry's service record does not appear to have survived, however the documents Soldiers died in the Great War states he was born in Gainsborough (census shows Sturton Le Steeple) and that he enlisted in Gainsborough . he died of wounds on 28th April 1917 and he is buried in Bray military cemetery, France
