Family History

Reginald Henry Russell was born on 3rd June 1891 at Shipley, Sussex , he was baptised on 17th July 1892 at Lower Beeding, Sussex he was the son of Walter a domestic gardener and Elizabeth Madden Russell née Brown, of Shipley Horsham. His father Walter was born in 1861 at Bletchingley, Surrey, his mother Elizabeth Madden Brown was born in 1870 at Lower Beeding, Sussex they were married on 18th June 1891 at Beeding, Sussex, they had a further son Walter Edward born 1896 at Shipley. In the 1911 census his parents and brother are living at South Lodge, Knepp Castle, Shipley Walter Russell is 50 yrs of age and is a domestic gardener he is living with his wife Elizabeth 41 yrs and their son Walter Edward 15 yrs a railway clerk. In the same 1911 census we find that Reginald Henry Russell has moved out of the family home and is living at Lavington House, Petworth, Sussex, he is 18 yrs and is a footman in service at the house.

Military History

Lance Corporal Reginald Henry Russell enlisted at Horsham, he served with the 11th battalion Royal Sussex Regiment, he was killed in action on 30th June 1916 and is buried at St Vaast Post Military Cemetery, Richebourg L’Avoue.
