Family History

James Parkin was born in 1898 at Boughton and was the son of Frank a groom and Sarah Parkin née Gilbert, of Perlethorpe, Newark. His father Frank Parkin was born in 1875 at Lincoln and his mother Sarah Gilbert was born in 1876 at Boughton, they were married in 1897 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration District, they went on to have 8 children sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, James b1898 Boughton, Lucy b1900 Ollerton, Mary b1905 Perlethorpe and Alice b1910 Perlethorpe. In the 1911 census the family are living at Perlethorpe village and are shown as Frank 36 yrs a groom, he is living with this wife Sarah 35 yrs and their children, James 13 yrs a scholar, Lucy 11 yrs, Mary 6 yrs and Alice 1 year.

Military History

Private James Parkin enlisted at Worksop, whilst residing at Ollerton and served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He died of Wounds, and is buried at Quarry Cemetery, Montauban, Somme, France.
