Archibald Askin

Archibald known as Archie Askin was the son of the late John Frederick Pass Askin a grocer and later candle maker and his second wife the late Emma Askin née Stanfield of "The Chestnuts," Butterley Hill, Ripley, Derby John Frederick Pass Askin was born in 1839 at Sheffield, he married his first wife Elizabeth Green (1840-1881) in 1858 at Sheffield, they went on to have 7 children. following the death of his first wife he married Emma Stanfield (1861 Brimington - 1912) on 9th January 1887 at St James Church, Accrington, Lancashire, they had 6 children sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their children were, Charles Henry b1888 Sheffield, Alice b1890 Wath upon Dearne, Jack Arthur b1891 Wath upon Dearne Archie b1894 Wath upon Dearne and Edith Mary b1899 Wath upon Dearne. In 1911 the family are living at The Chestnuts, Ripley and are shown as John Frederick Pass a candle maker, he is living with his wife Emma and their children, Charles Henry a grocers assistant, Jack Arthur a blacksmith shoeing smith, Archie a grocers assistant, and Edith Mary a scholar. His father died in 1916 at Belper he was 76yrs old. Archie married Gladys Jephson in 1915 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at Alma House, Selston, Notts. Following his death his widow Gladys was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 28th May 1917.
