Frank Eyre was born in 1894 at Eastwood and was the son of Samuel a blacksmith and Ellen Eyre née Hall of 2 Glen Roy Terrace Hood Street Sherwood Nottingham. His father Samuel was born in 1855 at Aldecar and his mother Ellen Hall was born in 1856 at Swanwick, they were married on 28th November 1875 in Derbyshire and went on to have the following children, Herbert b1876 Langley Mill, Phoebe b1878 Eastwood, Nellie b1884 Eastwood, Sarah b1890 Eastwood Frank b1894 Eastwood, Hilda b1896 Eastwood and Amanda b1898 Eastwood. In the 1911 census Frank is shown as a visitor at 16 Derby Road, Eastwood, he is shown as being 17 yrs of age, single a coal miner pony driver, he is visiting his married sister Phoebe Lowe 33 yrs and her husband John Lowe 33 yrs a coal.
Private Frank Eyre enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Sherwood, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme 1st July 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
