Family History

William Lambert was born in 1894 in 1894 in Tottenham, Middlesex and was the son of a railway signalman and Agnes Ann Lambert née Stevenson of Rose Hill Keyworth, Notts. His father Daniel was born in 1868 in Ockbrook, Derbyshire and his mother Agnes Ann Stevenson was born in 1870 in Breaston, Derbyshire, they were married in 1890 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow Registration area, they went on to have 5 children , sadly 1 died in infancy their surviving children were : Harriett Elizabeth b1891 Breaston, Daniel John b1892 Tottenham, William b1894 Tottenham and Bertie b1896 Tottenham. In the 1911 census the family are living at Rose Hill Keyworth and are shown as Daniel 43 yrs a railway signalman, he is living with his wife Agnes Ann 41 yrs and their children , Harriett Elizabeth 20 yrs a drapers assistant, Daniel John 19 yrs a grocers assistant, William 17 yrs a dyers assistant and Bertie 15 yrs a dyers assistant.

Military History

William enlisted at Nottingham and served with 11th battalion and then 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment) The 9th Battalion where holding the front line at Cite St Pierre (Loos) William died of wounds received whilst the battalion were in the front line. The likely date of wounding would be 16th December when the 9th Battalion were being relieved by other units. He is buried in Les Baraques Military Cemetery, 2.C.1,
