Family History

James Arnold and Elizabeth Lewis married in Monmouth, Wales in 1897. Their first child was named after his father, James, and the second child was called George. Very soon after George was born, the family moved to Killamarsh in Yorkshire, possibly for work. Their residence became 60 Sheffield Road and James senior was working as a labourer in a chemical works. George died whilst still in infancy. The couple had 2 more children, Albert and Cissie, whilst at Killamarsh. It was about 1907 when the family moved on, this time to Worksop,163 Sandy Lane. The following year they had a son, Wilfred. Although James was still at school in 1911, it was from this town that he enlisted in the army.

Military History

James was formerly 59229, of the Linccolnshire Regt. He fought and died in Mesopotamia and is commemorated on the Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery.
