Family History

Sibery Antill was born in 1894 the son of the late Elam a colliery carter and Frances Antill née Hibbert of Duke's Cottages, Sutton-in-Ashfield. Elam was born in 1852 at Sutton in Ashfield he died in 1918 aged 67 yrs, , Frances Hibbert was born in 1852 at Mansfield, married in 1873 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they went on to have 6 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at Dukes Cottage, Sutton in Ashfield.

Military History

Private Sibery Antill enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield, he initially served with the service number 34749 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 18th November 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser, 05/04/1917: List of Mansfield and Sutton-in-Ashfield Co-operative employees who had enlisted. His brother Driver William Antill enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 92nd battalion Royal Field Artillery, he died of pneumonia on 8th November 1918 and is buried at Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, France
