Family History

Harry Moore and Sabina Neal married in 1889, Lincolnshire and had a daughter, Ethel born the following year. The three of them moved to Whaley Common, Langwith by 1891 where the couple had six more children, Jarvis Henry, Joe Maxwell, Albert, Laura, John and George born 1908. Harry worked at Creswell pit and was soon working as a foreman. Third child, Joe Maxwell More had been born in 1893 spending his upbringing in Whaley and in 1911, he along with his brothers, Jarvis and Albert, were employed at Creswell colliery as pit pony drivers.

Military History

Joe was attested with the Notts and Derbys Territorial Force on 23 Jan 1915 at Chesterfield at the age of 21 years and 6 months. He was issued with regimental number 3642 which was later changed to 241152. He was transferred to the 1/6th Battalion on leaving for France on the 18 March 1916. He was killed in action and was buried at Fouquireres Churchyard Extension, France

CWG additional information:- Son of Harry and Sabine Moore, of Whaley Common, Langwith, Mansfield, Derbyshire. Joe's brother, Alfred also died of the effects of the war and died on home soil. He was buried at Creswell with Joe's name and details included on the headstone.
