Alfred Clarke Wilson was born on 4th February 1886, he was baptised on 4th April 1886 at St Peter’s Church at Ruddington, he was the son of Alfred an auctioner and Sarah Jane Wilson née Clarke of Clifton Road, Ruddington. Alfred was born in 1860 at East Retford, Sarah Jane Clarke was born in 1863 at Ruddington, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 5 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family is living at Clifton Road, Ruddington, Alfred 51 yrs is an auctioner, he is living with his wife Sarah Jane 48 yrs and their children, Florence Helen 26 yrs, Alfred Clarke 25 yrs an insurance surveyor, Eliza Oliver 23 yrs and Daisy 21 yrs.
Second Lieutenant Alfred Clarke Wilson served with the 3rd battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was attached to the 6th battalion when he died on 6th November 1918 and is buried at Mons (Bergen) Communal Cemetery, Belgium.
