Herbert was born in 1892 in Scarrington and was the son of Ebenezer a cattleman on a farm and Hannah Worley née Breedon. Ebenezer and Hannah had a large family of 10 children, one of which died in infancy , Herberts siblings were:- Betsy, Harriett , George, Dinah, Ethel, William and Arthur. In the 1911 census his parents are living in Scarrington with their son William Henry and granddaughter Fanny. In the 1911 census we find Herbert has left the family home , he is shown as being 19 yrs a farm lad working on a far, living at Stainsby, Ault Hucknall near Chesterfield, he is living with John Hitch 33 yrs a farmer and miller and his widowed mother Sarah Hitch Herbert cannot be found on the 1911 census.
Private Herbert Breedon Worley enlisted at Nottingham, serving with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he was killed in action on 31st July 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial
