Tom Ogden was born in 1895 at Nottingham and was the youngest son of Francis (Frank) and Ann Ogden née Marson of 16 Rushcliffe Terrace Bunbury Street Meadows Nottingham. His father Frank was born in 1857 at Barrowby, Lincolnshire and his mother Ann Marsden was born in 1858 at Flintham, they were married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham registration district, they went on have 8 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood, their children were William b1883 Flintham, Fanny b1884 Burton Joyce, John b1886 Bulcote, Robert b1889 Clifton, Charles Frederick b1892 Ruddington, Arthur b1896 Nottingham and Thomas b1896 Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 16 Berlin Terrace, Bunbury Street, Nottingham and were shown as Frank 53 yrs a farm labourer he is living with wife Ann 53 yrs and their son Charles Fred 19 yrs a chamois leather sorter.
Private Tom Ogen enlisted on 6th November 1911 at Nottingham into the Sherwood Foresters Special Reserve for a term of six years, he gave his address as 16 Berlin Terrace, Bunbury Street, Nottingham, he falsely stated he was 18 yrs and 2 months old (born in 1896 would make him 16 yrs old) and was a agricultural labourer, his next of kin was his father Frank of the same address. At the outbreak of war he was embodied into the army and landed in France on 27th January 1915. He was killed in action on 11th March 1915 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the He is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial, France.
In memoriam published 11th March 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “OGDEN. – In loving remembrance of my dear son, Pte. Tom Ogden, 4th Notts. and Derbys., killed in action March 11th, 1915.
