John William Saxton

John William Saxton was born in 1881 at Longton , Staffordshire He was the son of Samuel and Kate Saxton née Adams of 54 Church Street Eastwood Nottinghamshire, His father Samuel was born in 1853in Eastwood and his mother Kate Adams was born in 1854 in Longton, Staffordshire, they were married on 17th November 1879 in Longton Staffordshire and went on to have 14 children 2 of whom sadly died in infancy or early childhood, their children were Samuel b1880, John William b1881, Kate b1883, Emily b1885, Dorothy b1888, Joseph Orme b 1889, Mary Elizabeth b1891, Florence b1893, Henry b1895, David b1897, Winifred May b1900, all these children were born in Longton Staffordshire, their final child Cyril Arthur was born in 1904 at Eastwood, Nottinghamshire In the 1911 census the family are living at 54 Church Street, Eastwood and are shown as Samuel 56 yrs a colliery motor driver, he is living with his wife Kate 57 yrs and their children, Samuel 31 yrs a colliery fireman, Joseph Orme 22 yrs a joiner, Florence 18 yrs, Henry 16 yrs a coal miner, David 14 yrs an apprentice joiner, Winifred May 11 yrs a scholar and Cyril Arthur 7 yrs a scholar. John William married Kate Winterbottom on 15th January 1906 at Eastwood and they lived at 12 Hope Street, Ilkeston, they had two sons Eric born 20th July 1906 and Claude born 3rd March 1910 both were born at Eastwood. His widow later remarried and became Kate Weston (formerly Saxton)and lived at 1 Ailsa Buildings Kilmarnock Scotland.
