Family History

William Ewart Williamson was born in 1892 at Langley Mill, he was the son of William a coal miner contractor and Amy Williamson née Liley of 6 Barley Grove, Langley Mill. William wqs born in 1851 at Langley Mill Amy Liley was born in 1856 at Heanor, they were married on 25th December 1875 at Heanor, they had 11 children, 4 of whom died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 6 Barley Grove Langley Mill, William 60 yrs a coal miner contractor, he is living with his wife Amy 55 yrs and 5 of their children including William 19 yrs a coal miner loader. William married Ethel May Farnsworth (born 21st May 1893 ) in 1915 they marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at 52 Crowford Road, Langley Mill, they had a daughter Joyce born 1st December 1918. Commencing 5th May 1919 his widow was awarded a pensionof 21 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military History

Acting Corporal William Ewart Williamson enlisted at Ilkeston whilst residing at Langley Mill , he served with the 1/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 17th October 1918 and is buried at Busigny Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Plot 3 Row C. Grave 9.
