Family History

Stephen George Arthur Crump was born in 1896 at Widmerpool he was the son of Solomon a railway signalman and Julia Crump née Saker and the brother of Beatrice Adelaide, Percy Thomas, Albert Henry, Julia Adeline, Claude Stanley and Francis Charles Crump of Sunny Bank Hickling Pastures Kinoulton Nottinghamshire. Solomon was born in 1869 at Droitwich, Worcestershire, Julia Saker was born in 1872 at Crocken Hill, Kent they were married in 1891 at Sevenoaks, Kent they went on to have 10 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at Hickling Pastures, Solomon is 42 yrs of age and a railway signalman, he is living with his wife Julia 39 yrs and 7 of their children including Stephen George Arthur 15 yrs a farm labourer

Military History

Private Stepehen George Arthur Crump enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Kinoulton, he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 3rd September 1916 and is buried at Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel (grave ref VI.A.24)
