Charles Marriot and Sarah Rowe married on 2nd Aug 1877 and made their home in Earking, Nottinghamshire. Their first child, William died in infancy but the couple had eight more children, Betsy 1882, George 1883, Florence 1885, Alby (Albert) G 1887, Ada M 1889, Minnie 1892, Clara 1895. By 1891, the family had left Earking and settled in Spring Lane Lambley, Nottinghamshire and 10 years later moved to Haxby in Yorkshire. Their father, Charles, had left his agricultural labouring job and was now a corn carter living on his own account. Albert Marriott had left the family home but was working as a servant and cattleman residing at Haxby Lodge farm, the same village as his parents.The main bread winner of the family, Charles died in 1907 aged 55. His widow, Sarah Eliza remained in Haxby and by 1911 only had one of her sons, George, and an eight year old grandson still living with her. Albert Marriott by this time had joined the army and was in barracks of the Royal Field Artillery at Ecclesall Bierlow as a driver. On the 26 December 1912 Albert Girken Marriott married Elizabeth Downs at Gringley on the Hill. They had a son Frederick Downs Marriott born in 1913. Elizabeth married Sydney Robertshaw in 1919 and they lived at High Street Gringley-on-the-Hill.
When war broke out Albert was already a serving shoeing smith in the Royal Field Artillery. He had originally enlisted in York. He died while being treated in England and was buried in Gringley on the Hill cemetery. Dedication on his CWGC headstone reads : ‘Let those who cometh after see that his name be not forgotten’
