He was the son of Joseph Henry and Mary Ellen Humphreys and the brother of Joseph Henry, Elizabeth Ellen, George and Winifred Florence Humphreys. In 1911 they lived at 1 Selina Terrace Rupert Street Meadows Nottingham.
Rifleman Sydney Humphreys, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 9th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 3rd August 1915 and he was killed in action on 9th April 1917. He is buried in Tilloy British Cemetery, Tilloy-Les-Mofflaines.
In memoriam published 9th April 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HUMPHREYS. – In loving memory of Syd, killed in action April 9th, 1917. A loving man, a brother kind, he was to us in heart and mind; he always strove to do his best, God grant him eternal rest. – From mother, father, sister, and brothers (George in Egypt). “HUMPHREYS. – In fond remembrance of Syd, who was killed in action April 9th, 1917.
