William Rogers was born in 1899 the son of Albert and Ethel Maud Rogers (née Smith). William’s parents were born at Nottingham, Albert in 1873, Ethel in 1871. She died in 1917 aged 46. Married in 1892, they had the following children - Florence Mabel b.1894, Albert b.1896, William b.1899, Ethel Annie b.1901 and Edith b.1905. In 1911, they lived at 37, Blackstone Street, Meadows, Nottingham. William was a fish salesman, Ethel a shop keeper assisted by her daughter Florence. Albert was a sugar boiler. William, Ethel and Edith were still at school. William’s pension record names his dependant as his sister Ethel Annie Rogers of 45, Kirkwhite Street, Nottingham. She, her sister Florence and brother Albert shared money owed to William by the army (Soldiers Effects Register).
