Extra Information

Worksop Guardian 6 September 1918 On Wednesday the sad news was received in Blyth of the death in action on Aug 29th of Pte Harold Pawson of the Northampton Regiment. The news cast a gloom over the village and district, where he was so well known and highly respected. He was only 18 ½ years old and had only been in France a few weeks. The greatest sympathy goes out to his father and mother, Mr and Mrs Geo. Pawson. The Vicar, the Rev A L Phillips writes, “He was a lad of beautiful character, straightforward, upright and with a high sense of duty. For ten years he was a boy and man member of the Blyth Parish Church Choir; a Sunday school teacher and in every way a fine example of an Englishman. He, like so many others, has given his life for his country and has fallen in defence of freedom. The souls of the Righteous are in the hand of God, and there shall no torment touch them. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Mr and Mrs Geo. Pawson and their family in their bitter loss.
