John Schofield Walker was born in 1893 at Syerston and was the son of John Walker a coachman and Charlotte Walker née Schofield of the coach house Syerston Hall. His father John was born in 1853 at Roade, Northamptonshire and his mother Charlotte Schofield was born in 1858 at Barkstone, Leicestershire, they were married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham Registration District, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Syerston, Florence Mary b1884, Lottie b1886, Edith Alice b188, Sarah Eliza b1892 and John Schofield b1893 In the 1911 census he is living at Syerston Hall, Syerston near Newark he is one of 4 servants at the hall, he is shown as being 17 yrs of age , single and a footman the head of the house hold is Mrs Emma Fillingham 52 yrs a widow and a farmer. In the same 1911 census we find his parents living at the coach house at Syerston Hall and are shown as John 58 yrs a coachman, he is living with his wife Charlotte Walker 53 yrs.

Military History

Private John Schofield Walker enlisted at Lincoln and initially served with the service number 4747 in the Lincolnshire Regiment he was killed in action on 20th November 1917 whilst serving with the Tank Corps, he is buried at Orival Wood Cemetery, Flesquieres, Nord, France.
