Henry Hurst

Henry Hurst was born in 1886 at Newark and was the son of the late Joseph a hawker and Ellen Hurst of Rowbotham Row, Water Lane , Newark. His father Joseph was born in 1842 at Worksop and died in 1895 at Newark aged 52 yrs and his mother Ellen Smith was born in 1842 at Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1870 at Newark and went on to have 8 children. In the 1911 census Henry Hurst is living at 10 Rowbotham Row, Water Lane Newark, he is shown as being head of the household single 25 yrs a plaster pit labourer, he is living with his widowed mother Ellen 69 yrs and his brother John 50 yrs also living at the address is his future wife Emma Smith 21 yrs single a house keeper and her daughter Florence Smith 10 months of age. Henry married Emma Smith in 1914 at Newark, they lived at 10 Rowbotham Row, Water Lane Newark, they had 3 children, Florence Betsy born 26th May 1910, Edna born 16th September 1912 and Violet born 7th July 1914. Commencing 21st January 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 28 shillings and 9 pence a week. His widow Emma later remarried and became Emma Clarke and lived at 28 Water Lane Newark.
