Family History

Arthur Oliver Ellson was born in 1895 at Kibworth, Leicestershire and was the son of Samuel a domestic gardener and Sarah Rosetta Ellson, née Tite of 32, Edward Rd., Clarendon Park, Leicester. His father Samuel was born in 1867 at Lutterworth, Leicestershire and his mother Sarah Rosetta Tite was born in 1871 at Primethorpe, Leicestershire, they were married in 1891 their marriage was recorded in the Lutterworth registration district, they went on to have the following children, Ernest William b1893, Arthur Oliver b1895 and Cecil James b1899 all were born in Kibworth. In the 1911 census the family are living at Allandale Lodge, Stoughton Road, Leicester and are shown as Samuel 44 yrs a domestic gardener, he is living with his wife Sarah Rosetta 40 yrs and their children, Arthur Oliver 16 yrs a domestic gardener and Cecil James 16 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Arthur Ellson enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Grenadier Guards, he landed n France on 27th October 1915. He was killed in action on 25th September 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
