Family History

Abraham Arme was born in 1872 in Fazeley, Staffordshire and his wife Ada Curran was born in 1873 in Nottingham. They were married in 1891 in Nottingham and had 10 children 1 of which died in infancy , their surviving children were all born in Nottingham and were : - Constance b1892, George Ernest b1895, Elizabeth b1897, Abraham b1899, Ada b1901, Eva b1903, William b1905, Arthur b1908 and Harold b1910. In the 1911 census the family are living at 30 Lambert Street, Hyson Green and are shown as Abraham 39 yrs a lace maker, he is living with his wife Ada 38 yrs and their children , Constance 19 yrs a lace maker, George 16 yrs a toffee maker, Elizabeth 14 yrs, Abraham 12 yrs, Ada 10 yrs , Eve 8 yrs, William 6 yrs, Arthur 3 yrs and Harold 1 yr.

Military History

Rifleman Abraham Arme, was a reservist at the time of the outbreak of war, he had previously served with the 7th battalion Sherwood Foresters for approximately 20 yrs, he re enlisted in Nottingham on 17th December 1914, when he was 44 yrs of age. He embarked from Devonport on 30th December 1915, disembarking at Alexandria, Egypt 14th January 1916, he later went to India arriving on 18th September 1918 and whilst serving with the 21st (Midland) Battalion (T.F.) Rifle Brigade, died 7th March 1919 of food poisoning in India. He is buried in Fyzabad Cantonment Cemetery, India

Extra Information

One of his sons, Pte. George Ernest Arme, “C” Company, 2nd Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, was killed in action 14th February 1917. He is buried in Vermelles British Cemetery Following obituaries published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 19th March 1919 :- “ARME. – In India, of ptomaine poisoning, after [illegible] years' faithful service, 3 years 3 months overseas without leave, 20 years in old Robin Hoods (late of [illegible]), Pte. Abraham (Abe) Arme, aged 47 years; also Drummer G. Arme, killed February 15th, 1917, son of the above, aged 22 years. Reunited. We loved them, but God loved them best. – Loving wife and 10 children. Abe. Jun., in France. “ARME. – Died in India, March 7th, of ptomaine poisoning, after 3 years 3 months overseas without leave, my death father, Pte. Abraham Arme, 21st Rifle Brigade.
