Family History

Arthur Wright was born in 1890 the son of Edward a lace curtain draughtsman and Martha Wright (née Pare). Edward Wright was born in 1864 at Beeston, Martha Pare was born in 1862 at Chilwell. Married in 1886 at Chilwell, they had the following children - Vincent b.1888 Beeston , Arthur b.1890 Beeston, Wilfred b.1895 Beeston, Barton b.1895 Beeston, Leonard Walter b.1897 Chilwell and Albert b.1901 Chilwell. In 1911, they lived at The Cottage, Grove Avenue, Chilwell. Vincent was a joiner, Barton a lace threader and Leonard a gardener’s boy. Arthur married Ida Ward in 1913 at Nottingham. Edward died 9/10/1918 aged 55 and Martha passed away 6/2/1919 aged 58. Ida Wright died 16/7/1918 aged 29.

Military History

Arthur Wright enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Chilwell and he died of wounds at Woburn Military Hospital. He is buried in St Mary Magdalene Attenborough churchyard.

Inscription, headstone marking family grave, Attenborough St Mary churchyard: ‘In loving memory of Edward Wright who died October 9th 1918 aged 55 years. Also of Martha, the dearly loved wife of the above who died Feby. 6th 1919, aged 58 years. Until the day break. Also of Pte Arthur Wright, 2nd/6th Sherwood Foresters, son of the above, who died of wounds received in France April 24th 1917, aged 27 years. Also of Ida the dearly loved wife of the above, who died July 16th 1918, aged 29 years. Reunited.’ Leonard Walter Wright enlisted at Nottingham on 9th June 1915 at Nottingham and discharged from the Army on 13th August 1917 no longer physically fit for war service.
