Family History

Walter Chantry was born in 1893 at Sheffield he was the son of Richard Chantry born 1844 Mansfield Woodhouse and his second wife Sabina Chantry née Huntingdon. His fathers first marriage was to Hannah Hardwick who was born in 1847, they were married on 25th September 1869, she died in 1874 aged 27 yrs, his second wife was Sabina Huntington who was born in 1853 they were married in 1875 at Mansfield Woodhouse, they had 3 children, John b1886, Walter b1892 and Henry b1895 his second wife died in 1895 aged 42 yrs. His father married for the 3rd time in 1896 at Sheffield to Elizabeth Wood who was born in 1845, she died in 1913 aged 68 yrs. His father Richard died in 1910 aged 65 yrs he was a joiner. In 1911 the family are living at 17 Vallance Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, Elizabeth Chantry is 66 yrs step mother and widow, she is living with John 25 yrs a coal miner hewer, Walter 18 yrs a coal miner pony driver and Henry 15 yrs a coal miner pony driver.

Military History

Private Walter Chantry, enlisted at Mansfield he served with the 10th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 17th March 1916. He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
