James Henry Littlewood was born in 1869 in Asfordby, Leicester , he married his wife Kate Taylor in 1895, their marriage was recorded in the Bingham Registration District. They went on to have six children, Mabel b1894 Normanton Millicent b1896 Normanton, James Henry b1898 Normanton, Joseph Edward b1901 Nottingham Kate b1907 Stanton on the Wolds and Eliza Littlewood b1909 Keyworth In the 1911 census the family are living at New Row, Keyworth and are shown as James Henry 40 yrs a labourer on a farm, he is living with his wife Kate 40 yrs and their children, Mabel 17 yrs no occupation listed, Millicent 15 yrs a domestic servant, James Henry 13 yrs a scholar, Joseph Edward 10 yrs a scholar, Kate 4 yrs and Eliza 2 yrs.

Joined South Notts Hussars 22/4/1912 and Mobilised 5/8/1914.Served in Salonkia 12/4/1915 to 8/6/1917. Medical resords show tubercolosis of lungs. Discharged 21/8/1917.
