Arnold Disney was born in 1887 at Keyworth and was the son of Thomas a frame work knitter and Emma Disney née Simpson of Main Street Keyworth Nottinghamshire. His father Thomas was born in 1852 at Keyworth and his mother Emma Simpson was born in 1849 at Keyworth, they were married in 1872 at Keyworth and went on to have the following children, Sarah b1874, Martha b1876, Annie Eliza b1878, Oliver b1881, Margaret b1884, Arnold b1887, Albert b1890 and Claude Owen b1892 all were born in Keyworth. In the 1911 census his parents were living at Main Street, Keyworth and are shown as Thomas 59 yrs a frame work knitter, he is living with his wife Emma 61 yrs and their children Sarah 37 yrs a machinist and Claude Owen 19 yrs a clerk. Arnold married Annie Rebecca Marriott (born 8th October 1887) in 1911 at Nottingham, Annie brought a child to the marriage Adeline Disney Marriott born 5th June 1907, they went on to have two further children, Marion born 31st March 1912 and Edna Annie born 3rd July 1916. They lived at Post Office Yard, Keyworth. In the 1911 census he was living at 27 Wye Street, Everton, Liverpool and were shown as Arnold Disney 23 yrs a sign writer at a carriage builders, he is living with his wife Marion 23 yrs and his adopted daughter Adeline Marriott 4 yrs of age Following Arnold's death his widow Annie was awarded a pension of 33 shillings and 4 pence a week which commenced on 4th November 1918.
Private Arnold Disney enlisted at Liverpool, he served with the 2nd battalion Prince of Wales's Volunteers (South Lancashire) Regiment. He died of wounds on 13th April 1918 and is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery.
His brother Rifleman Claude Owen Disney enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 13th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps he landed in France on 31st July 1915 and was killed in action on 31st August 1916. He is buried at Bully-Grenay Communal Cemetery, British Extension His brother Private Albert Disney enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Keyworth, he initially served with the service number 25011 in the North Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 22nd October 1916 whilst serving with the 1st battalion East Lancashire Regiment. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Theipval memorial, Somme, France. Nottingham Evening Post, 'Roll of Honour', 6 May 1918: 'Disney. Died of wounds, April 13th, 1918. Pte. Arnold Disney, South Lancashires, aged 30, third son of Mr and Mrs T Disney, Keyworth. We never knew what pain he had, we never saw him die, we only know he passed away, without a last good-bye. The third to fall.
